Educational Programs

SkAI is partnering with multiple higher-education institutions across the Chicagoland area to contribute to the growth of researchers at all levels on the intersection of Astronomy and AI.

  • Through our Postdoctoral Preceptor Program, early-career researchers will teach innovative new classes at The University of Chicago, as well as at the City Colleges of Chicago, Chicago State University, and other area schools.
  • Starting in the summer of 2026, SkAI will be hosting a paid research opportunity—Satellite Early Education for Discovery (SEED)—for undergraduate-level students from the Satellite Network.
  • SkAI will also be developing Astro-AI lessons for The University of Chicago’s Space Explorers Program, focusing on enriching science education for Chicago area high school students. This fun, hands-on program runs on Saturdays for nine weeks and is led by graduate students.

The SkAI Institute is one of the National Artificial Intelligence Research Institutes funded by the US National Science Foundation and Simons Foundation.
